Anyone know if these hit the street before end of September? Supposed to buy one for department use, but has to be with our fiscal '08 money, which goes *poof* Oct 1. Should I just hunt down an 80GB? |

The PAL version will be introduced October 31. The NTSC version probably not long before or after.
You may however be able to pre-order it timely for this financial year. Not yet today, but closer to date. The entry's already there:
Amazon: Playstation 3 160 GB Uncharted

Well, guess it's the 80GB then. Thanks.

Wow, just noticed the specs on this sku. So it is identical to the 80 except HDD size. WTF Sony? There seems to be quite nearly no upside to the 160GB model. If you want Drake's and Pain, they are less than $100, and the price of a 200GB hard drive may be $50 by the time you have come close to filling the included 80 on the lower model.
No additional USB ports (largely unnecessary, sure). No card readers. No BC, no SACD.
Man, I' dpay $500 to repair my 60GB before I'd buy one of these.
I am guessing they are feeling a strong need to get the systems profitable. Kind of kills any plans I had for a second new machine, as I want SACD playback in the other room as well.
