Hello everyone. I just joined the forums today and I'm looking for some help.
Because of the price drop and ps3 slim, I am interested to buying a 2nd PS3.
I'll keep it simple: Should I buy a ps3 fat? slim? or a blu ray player that is around the same price point.
The reason is because some say the audio on blu ray players are better than that of the ps3. I will be using it to play blu ray movies, dsd, cd's, few SACD's.
PS. are SACD's really worth it? I'm happy with DSD as I don't here a difference from my existing olf 'fat' ps3. |

If you have some SACDs, I'd always buy one of the original SACD-compatible PS3s if I were you.
Perhaps the price of used ones will also lower now that the price of new ones has dropped. |

Yeah, but it's hard to find a new original and at a good price.
Do you know if the new ps3 slim has better audio than the ps3 fat though? Heard it had some hdmi chipset upgrade. |

Correct. See http://www.ps3sacd.com/index.html#_20090819_2
The only quality difference is bitstreaming of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, but that's only applicable if you've got a receiver that can decode those (and then still the quality difference may be marginal).
If you buy the new model, at least you've got maximum variation. |
