Sorry I've been a little quiet around here lately. I've been working on a new (for now) niche interest site on the side.
Just a shameless plug now -- Here it is:

I expect we'll get to see a new console design this season (and no PS4 prototype) and on this site I hope to concentrate all news and information about that. See you there (and hopefully here too).
PS: I expect it will not play SACD but continue to support DSD Disc playback. |

I may have been off with my prediction for E3 but I'm pretty sure we'll get to see a new PS3 design at the GameCon 2012 conference in Cologne, in August.
Especially since FW 4.20, which holds overt suggestions that the slot loader is going to be replaced by a top loader, and the hard disk drive by solid state storage.

More clues that my guesses turn out right have transpired today, with the surfacing of official Sony approbation documents for a 'CECH-4001x' PS3 model on the FCC site.

I know it sounds like I'm talking to myself here but I can see from the view counter I'm not.
While Sony (as predicted a month ago) has not shown a CECH-4000 at the GamesCom conference in Cologne this week I'm sure it's still coming, perhaps at the Tokyo Games Show next month.
In the meantime if you're interested there's a gripping discussion about the chips for PS4 and the next-generation Xbox but potentially also radically redesigned versions of both current-generation consoles i.e. PS3 and Xbox360:
