This week SCE has introduced a redesigned PS3 Slim with typenumber CECH-3000B. It's got the same HDD capacity (320 GB) like the now phased-out predecessor, CECH-2500B, but apparently redesigned internals:
- power consumption has gone down from 230W to 200W
- weight has decreased from 3.0 to 2.6 kg
Additionally, the AACS 'Analog Sunset' is now applied to any analog video output other than 480i.
See AV Watch (Japanese), Crunchgear or many other sources.
Surely SCE has done another shrink of the Cell BE, the RSX or both, or perhaps even a die integration of the two.
Has anyone seen a teardown of this unit yet? I'm curious to see the latest motherboard redesign but so far haven't found any pictures of the CECH-3000B's internals yet. |

Well it's probably just too early for a teardown but the FAQ is anyway updated. |

Hm, I just noticed a picture above is missing, because the site I referred to is no longer online. (Shame on me for bandwidth horking anyway.) Probably this one though:
Of course, since then we've had the 'ultra slim' CECH-4000 series, that I posted about in this thread and on this site.
Here's a picture of the latest PS3 MoBo then:
and one funny little detail that struck me: The RSX chip for the first time has a logo printed on, rather than just plain letters. And it looks like a crossover between the PS3 and PSX logos
Shame the thread about the evolution of PS3 motherboards on the PS3 Secrets site no longer gets updated. |
